What's going on in Eastfield & Osgodby
Bus Stop Success During the construction of the A165 diversion a bus stop was removed which caused great concerns to those of the older generation and those with mobility problems as it meant a long trek to the nearest one. Many people contacted Osgodby Parish Councillor Avril Gregory and myself as County Councillor over this issue, after many months of phone calls, e mails and letters plus more than one site meeting we now have not one but two new bus stops just around the corner on Osgodby Lane, I would like to say a big thank you to all residents in the are concerned for their patience over this matter. |

County Councillors Funding Allocations Every year all County Councillors in the Coast & Moors area are given a devolved budget of £1000 each to spend on community projects in each County division, I represent both Eastfield & Osgodby on NYCC so I split my allocation between the two. Last year I gave £500 to the Dell project in Eastfield and £500 to Osgodby in bloom to plant trees on carnival field. This year I have given £500 to Incredible Edible Eastfield and £500 again to Osgodby in Bloom to go towards creating a memorial garden in the village, Osgodby Parish Council and Scarborough Borough Council are also involved with funding the garden. Voice Your Choice/ PB (Participatory Budgeting)
Preparations are well under way for this years Voice Your Choice in Eastfield, The Parish Council is funding it to the tune of £10,000 and the steering group is organising the event, so far 10 community groups have submitted bids to the fund and residents of Eastfield will vote on who gets what funding and how much, the event will take place on Saturday 17th July at the Eastfield Community Centre, more details to follow on this.
I was proud as County Councillor at a recent meeting of the County Coast & Moors committee meeting to propose that we award a sum of £25,000 to each of the Borough Council area committees to assist in their PB events following a report being discussed on the matter, it is still a sad fact that the Southern Area Committee is not fully behind the PB spirit, it still has kept control over its budget, it is quite clear that the majority of members on that committee do not trust residents to have a say or decide how their own Council Tax money is spent.
60 Years old and still going strong! This year marks Eastfield's 60th Birthday and preparations are well under way the celebrate they day, taking place on the 28th July at Braeburn Infant & Nursery School from 11.00am on the playing field it is set to be a day to remember. Come along and see what’s going on. |

Fun Fun Fun 5th June saw Eastfield hold its first ever Family Fun Day, the main organisers were Adele and Shirley, it is days like this which show the true community spirit Eastfield has. I was please to make a proposal at a recent SBC Southern area committee meeting to grant funding for this event. The day was a great success, well done to everyone involved. |

Bin it DON'T Sling it!!
Litter is a nuisance and can give the impression of an unloved and uncared for community, the issue was raised at the April meeting of Eastfield Parish Council.
We need more litter bins in various locations around Eastfield, we also need to give this problem the partnership treatment! As your Councillors we will play our part in fighting to get more bins from either the Borough Council or by the Parish Council providing some bins in conjunction with the Borough Council. We then need to campaign and raise awareness of a new zero tolerance on litter, lets work together and keep Eastfield tidy!
Fly tippers..... we're watching you!! The Dell is evolving, we now have the Lottery funding to turn it into a nature park. Work has begun and Two rangers have been appointed. And yet one or two people still use it as a dumping ground! The whole of Eastfield is behind the new park, you told us that this is what you wanted the Dell to be, we will not stand by and allow a small number of people ruin it for the rest of us which is why Eastfield Parish Council has approved the deployment of its mobile CCTV camera on to the Dell, it is will be there to spot fly tippers and protect the huge investment of Parish Council and lottery funding. Your Parish Council, us your Borough Councillors, the residents association and neighbourhood partnership will move heaven and earth to ensure the prosecution of anyone found fly tipping. |

Delve into nature Work has no begun to transform the Dell into a nature park complete with recreation areas, this has long being an aspiration of local residents and now finally it is coming to life. Eastfield Parish Council has kick started the scheme which lead to successful lottery bid. Even half of the County Councillors grant went towards this. Eastfield never benefits form direct government funding instead we tend to fend for ourselves and are now becoming rather good at it. The way in which we your Lib Dem Councillors work to support residents and community groups like Eastfield Neighbourhood Partnership, the Residents Association and Eastfield Parish Council make projects like this a success. |

Incredible Edible Eastfield
Wouldn’t it be great to grow local produce in some of our open spaces in Eastfield so our community can benefit from good quality herbs, fruits and vegetables around almost every corner? Well why not??
We want to find new ways for the local people of Eastfield to grow their own. It’s a healthy option, it’s cheaper and it’s better for the environment.
For more information and to find out how to get involved call 860751 it might not look like an Eastfield number but it is... i think BT must have run out! Or have a look and see how it has worked else where click>> Incredible Edible Todmorden | The Future Of Local Food In Todmorden

Resistance is futile!
Well with change comes conflict and resistance, this was made only to clear at the last Southern Area Committee meeting. On this site you will have read much about Participatory Budgeting a way of giving local residents direct and equal control over how some of the hard earned Council Tax contributions are spent. A sum of £25,000 has been made available in each of the Borough Council areas with the option to put area committee grant funds with it to bulk it up so local residents can decide which community projects are funded rather than just Councillors making the choices. This is a core Lib Dem Borough Council group policy, not just for community projects but we also want to see this approach extended to main stream funding for highways spending, parks & Countryside spending and to major projects which Council Tax contributions go into. Sadly on the night of the area meeting both the Conservative & “Independent” Councillors teamed up to make sure none of the area budget went into PB, they want to keep control and keep local people under the thumb! All their talk of supporting it in principle was just that .... TALK with no action, but we fight on as this approach must win through so local residents can lead from the front.
December 2009 Talking Trees! The new improved Beech Walk play area was given is future greenery, many trees were planted around the new park in a well attended Community event. So we have the play equipment, we have the trees; all we need now are the new sculptures to complete the project.

27th November 2009 Pride of Eastfield Friday 27th November 2009 saw the very first Eastfield Community Pride awards evening, and what an evening it was! We had seven categories ranging from neighbour of the year award right up to Parent of the year award. It is awesome for Eastfield to celebrate its people and achievements, we have some fantastic people here and a fantastic community, I am proud to live in Eastfield and proud to able to represent the area and my fellow residents. Everyone who was nominated in my eyes are winners no matter if they got a trophy or not. I was chuffed to be asked to MC the evening (even though my MCing skills need to be improved) and fellow Councillor Geoff was equally delighted to be asked to present the trophies. An event like this gives me Geoff and Brian the heart to go on speaking up and fighting for Eastfield, Councillors like us can only do our job with a strong community behind us and here in Eastfield we are lucky to have that. I look forward to next year’s event. I must say a very big thank you to the Eastfield Neighbourhood Partnership team for organising the event.

Grow your own Part 2! The allotments project is still very much alive due to a new partnership between Osgodby community association and Eastfield parish council. Osgodby community association has worked extremely hard on this major community project. Now Eastfield parish council has joined them with a funding package of £10,000 over two years. As chairman of the parish council and County Councillor for Eastfield & Osgodby I am proud to support this important project which will benefit the whole area. | ![]() |
Grow your own Part 3!
Its all systems go for the allotments project! A planning application is due to be submitted for the allotment site in November of this year, this means allotments could be up and running in the spring of next year. The funding which Eastfield Parish Council secured has done the trick. If you have not yet put your name down for a plot and want to grow your own please give me a ring and I will pass on your details to the relevant people. I am proud to have supported this project both as your County Councillor and Chairman of Eastfield Parish Council. I will continue to help make this happen.
People power!
£32000 has been made available to be spent in Eastfield on community safety and only YOU can decide what it is spent on! Shortly various projects will be on offer for you to look at and give your opinion on, then comes judgement day! On the 20th June you will be invited to come to the Community centre to vote for the project you want. Make sure you have your say, never before has this type of funding taken place. This is your community… your money and your choice! Look out for more details in future editions of my newsletter and the Parish Council newsletter.
Call for action on our broken roads As many you will have noticed allot of the roads have now been resurfaced, I have been able to get things done due to many emails phone calls and meetings with highways bosses! I do know that we have many more roads both in Eastfield & Osgodby which need to be repaired, the repairs had to start somewhere and it had to start with the worst. I do know that some of the repairs have not been done very well by the contractor. I am assured that these will be re done and made good and you have my assurance that this will happen. |
Churned up grass verges in Eastfield
As many of you will now allot of our grass verges are in an awful mess due to cars churning them up. I am supporting the environment action group to try and sort this out. However it is proving to be much more complicated to sort out than I first thought it would be and it is going to take a while. We need to make parking bays where there is room which would mean that there will be no need to park on the verges. I am confident that this can be done and I will continue to fight to make this happen. | ![]() |
The big build!
Eastfield is going through change; we are poised to expand with the proposed development of 1200 new homes. You need to have your say in how its all going to take shape, everyone needs the opportunity to speak out if they want to. We have had one public consultation but it was not in fact well organised or well timed. I have made sure that the next public meeting will be held at times when people (with plenty of notice) can attend and not while they are still at work! There is a long way to go before the Borough Council and the developer can go for planning permission. I will continue to keep you informed of what is happening and what is going on. If you have any questions please use the contact page on this site to get in touch with me.
Anti Social behaviour continues to be a problem in some areas around Eastfield. I have been working with 4Youth ( the County Councils youth service) to bring more direct services into the area with projects designed to engage with young people and give them something to do. This is long over due and has been held up due to 4Youth going through a major re organization. More on this to follow...
