TOP OF THE CLASS! GPCSC is now one of the most improved schools in England! Well done to both the Head Teacher, staff and students, lately I as a local Councillor I have had to raise certain issues with the school due to the fact local residents have asked me to do so which is my job, however this does not take away from the fact that GPCSC is a great place to learn and has some fantastic young people in it. I want to see the school continue going from strength to strength with the support of the local community. I have been criticised over not knowing the full picture so to make sure I have all the facts I have offered to meet with both the head Teacher and Chair of Governors on a regular basis so I can help to facilitate the continued success of the school.

A Job Well Done!
Well done Osgodby in Bloom for winning a silver gilt rose award following the summer 2009 judging. It is great to see a reward for all the hard work, Thanks to this community group Osgodby is looking great!
GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME
Well the grassed open spaces of Eastfield are growing at a tremendous rate, knee high in some places! To be honest it’s a mess and we need it to be cut and more than the paltry five or six times a year which Scarborough Borough Council thinks is enough, even when it is cut it still looks a mess as the cuttings are just left to blow around in the wind. I noticed as I was in town the other day how nice the grass looked in there, short and not a grass cutting to be seen, not really fair is it? If in Scarborough town the grass is kept under control then why not out here? After all we pay our Council Tax so we should have the same treatment.

108% Increase in Council Tax!!!!
North Yorkshire County Council has been controlled by the Conservatives since 1997.
Over the last eleven years of Tory control Council Tax has more than doubled from £474 to £988 per year at Band D. This increase far exceeds inflation and only 10 English Counties out of 34 had increases above the North Yorkshire level.
This could possibly be justified if it resulted in better services, but it has not. Complaints against the Council rose by nearly 60% in 2007/8. Here in Eastfield & Osgodby we have seen no improvements for our money! The Conservatives have taken our money away from us for road and footpath repairs, they are happy to see our youth services struggle with next to no money, they will not increase funding to our schools… Conservative Councillors will do NOTHING for Eastfield & Osgodby!

Traffic light Over Load!
Over the last few months I have read various letters and listened to residents who live in my ward, I have even listened to other Councillors when they talk about the situation we have in our town regarding traffic jam 's and the multitude of traffic lights we now have around the place.
It is clear to me that we as a Council can no longer ignore the real problems we have on our roads or the concerns of our residents; it has been suggested by some Councillors that we wait until the entire Scarborough Integrated Transport Scheme is up and running to see how it works out and yes I have said that too. However more lights are going up and traffic ques are getting longer with the activation of each new set of lights, ok the lights may not be able to be synchronised properly until all of them are operating but in all honesty I can’t see how once all the new lights are in operation how things will improve.
Living in Eastfield my obvious route into town is along Seamer Road, when the traffic lights were installed at B&Q I had to add ten/fifteen minutes to my journey time at peak times, now the Lights at the Queen Margarets Road junction are in operation I have had to add twenty five minutes to my journey time. I dread to think how much time I and other Eastfield residents will have to allow once the Park & Ride site is up and running!
Even if we Eastfield folk try to get into town via Filey Road we will have to run the gauntlet of lights up there and resist the temptation of nipping in on the bus lane. Perhaps it is time we had an all inclusive town meeting on this issue, and why not on other issues that face this town and Borough as a whole, we as Councillors are elected to represent the views of our residents, we as a Council should be communicating more directly with residents and be willing to listen to what they have to say.
Grow your own! Residents in Eastfield, Osgodby and Cayton could soon be growing their way out of the credit crunch with plans by Osgodby community association to establish allotments on a parcel of land just off Osgodby lane. The land itself falls within the parish of Eastfield and is close to Harvest Way on the edge of the parish boundary with Osgodby and Cayton, this could give the opportunity for residents in all three parish’s to grow their own veg as well as community and school plots. I am delighted to support this as your County Councillor and Chairman of Eastfield Parish Council; I will do all I can to help make this happen.

| Stop that bus! Residents of Eastway and Priory place will have noticed that we seem to have lost a bus stop; it was moved further down from Priory Place to Eastway. We are told that it would have been too close to the new junction with the A165 road, I say it is no closer to a junction than other bus stops in our area and has made life difficult for the older and disabled people who now have to walk further to catch a bus. With the support of Osgodby parish council I am fighting to have the stop put back in its rightful place. Osgodby parish councillor Avril Gregory has organised and submitted a petition calling for the bus stop to be put back which will give me ammunition to resolve this ridicules situation. |
