Money matters

One of the most common problems in households today is debt, it can be both demoralising and depressing catching many people in a downward spiral through no fault of their own.

Sometimes people have no other option but to take out a loan, unfortunately people turn to either door step lenders or even worse loan sharks who charge massive amounts in interest. Before going down that road take a look at the North Yorkshire Credit Union. They are so much more than a loan company offering savings plans, advice and loans with a low interest rate. We support the recent decision By Eastfield Parish Council to fund the credit union to open pay points in local schools across Eastfield to encourage children to start saving up and learning about money. North Yorkshire Credit Union can now also be found at Eastfield Library. Have a look at their web site b clicking the link below.

Fully audited & in good order

We are pleased to report that Eastfield Parish Council accounts have now been fully and independently audited. The external auditors have given the Council a clean bill of financial health and the accounts have now been signed off. This follows an excellent report form our internal independent auditor who is a clerk to another Parish Council, so not only have the accounts been audited once, they have in fact been audited twice. On both audits the Council has been proved to have sound financial management.

A sense of achievement

The Parish Council has brought forward many improvements and projects which have benefited the community of Eastfield. Without a Parish Council no funding would be available for Eastfield residents and none of this would have happened....

New bus shelters, Skate Board Park, Dell improvements

Boxing Day bus service, Extra waste bins, New planters

New & improved play areas, Voice Your Choice, Older people's Xmas party

Children’s Xmas party, Eastfield Library funding, Community centre funding

Boxing club funding, Community group funding

Brownies & Scouts funding, PLUS A WHOLE LOT MORE!!

Over the coming years it is vital the Eastfield Parish Council over sees the regeneration of the community along side the Middle Deepdale development to ensure Eastfield becomes a Town with everything you would expect to see in a Town. Every penny Eastfield Parish Council raises in precept on Council Tax is spent in Eastfield and that is how we want it to continue.

Budget set for 2012-13

We are pleased to have supported the budget set by Eastfield Parish Council. This is good news for Eastfield, within the budget £15,000 has been budgeted to continue the Dell ranger service to ensure the Dell keeps on improving and goes form strength to strength. £5000 has been budgeted to support activities at Eastfield Library to ensure our Library service remains and improves. £10,000 had been budgeted for to support the boxing club so it can expand and improve their facilities. The Voice Your Choice budget has been frozen at £15,000 and the small grants budget frozen at £2000. Other budgets which cover things like administration and fees/charges have been risen by 8% to take into account general increases in inflation and fees.

The total precept will rise form £32,310 to £68,168 for 2012-13 this works out at around £35 for a band A house for the year which works out at around 67p per week. Every penny raised by precept on Council Tax by Eastfield Parish Council is spent in Eastfield.

If you would like to become involved with helping you neighbours and the community as a whole with snow clearing please contact eith the clerk to EPC Mr Steve Simpson on 586655 or the Chairman Cllr Brian Simpson on 585972

Could you be a snow warden for your street??

Winter is fast approaching and Eastfield Parish Council is taking a pro active approach with a snow warden scheme.

The Council is looking for volunteers who can clear snow and salt footpaths along with stretches of road which are off the normal gritter routes. The Council will provide rock salt and also snow shovels, wheel barrows and high visibility jackets. We need people who can store a quantity of rock salt which will come in 25 KG bags and keep the paths clear on their street. We already have volunteers for Bank Side and the Meads so a big thank you to those residents already involved.

  A new Council

Following the Local elections held in May this year Eastfield Parish Council welcomed four new Council members, they are Cllr John white & Cllr Tracey While both elected for the Westway Ward and Cllr Carole Gerada & Cllr Susan Baker both elected for the Eastway Ward.

  An excellent financial report

This year Eastfield Parish Council was given an excellent report form the auditors regarding our finances and how we manage them. All Councils must be by law independently audited, the auditor is tasked with looking over the financial arrangements and looks for any mistakes or anomalies.

 On the 5th May 2011 ….

The people of Eastfield entrusted eleven people with the future leadership of Eastfield by electing them to the Parish Council. Eastfield is the only Parish in the Borough of Scarborough to have a fully elected Parish Council.

Service free of charge

Contrary to a recent letter in the Scarborough Evening News we would like to point out that Parish Councillors in Eastfield do NOT receive any allowance, they are unpaid and volunteer their services free of charge. Borough & County Councillors do receive an allowance, the basic Borough Councillors allowance is £3800 per year and the basic County Councillor allowance is £8994 per year. Hmm, wonder how many other Councillors put this in the public arena!

  Conserving what we have

Eastfield Parish Councillors have opted to investigate Eastfield becoming a conservation area, this will involve a full survey of all our open spaces which make our community unique, we are keen to protect our environment and limit development within the existing Eastfield area.

Protecting the Dell

The Dell has under gone a transformation, thousands of pounds of funding has been invested and it is now paying off with involvement form our school children, fruit trees are being planted and it will form a big part of incredible edible Eastfield by way of food being grown by the community for the community. Eastfield Parish Councillors have taken a decision to have the entire Dell area adopted for village green status, this will ensure it is there for future generations of residents.

Rumours & Miss representation!

Sadly of late allot of rumours have been set in motion against Eastfield Parish Council for political gain at the next round of Local elections in May this year. It is time to set the record straight.

Eastfield Parish Council is inclusive of all Eastfield residents, we meet as a full Council on the last Monday of every month barring August & December when there are no meetings due to the holiday season and the Christmas period. All residents of Eastfield are welcome to attend, residents who want to raise issues which are happening in the community can do so, residents can ask questions on any issue affecting Eastfield with a view to the Parish Council taking it up. If you have an issue which you would like to raise please come along, meetings take place at Eastfield Community Centre at 7.00pm

Bin it Don't sling it!

As your Councillors we are actively working with Eastfield Parish Council and Yorkshire Coast Homes to provide more litter bins for the area, it is no good us complaining about litter if there is no where to chuck it! Bins are surprisingly expensive, around £600 per bin so we might have to do this in stages, partnership funding from the Parish Council, Yorkshire Coast Homes and Scarborough Borough Council is a good way of getting what we want for Eastfield, the most requests we get as Councillors is for more bins so we are are acting on what yo have said.
