The Parish Council has been busy over the past few months, we have granted funding for the Pop in club, the Mud in your blood project which aims to provide a motor bike track together with training for young people, this will also help stop the amount of mini motor bikes being driven all of the place, it makes sense that if we can provide a facility for this use then the problem should be largely solved. We have been involved in a housing consultation on bits of land which are proposed for development in Eastfield, we now await a report on this to go before Cabinet. We are about to discuss where we will site this years new bus stop, (we have a budget to erect one new bus shelter a year at the cost of around £6000) eventually we want to see all bus stop under cover. We have made various recommendations on planning applications throughout the Parish.

Allotment update
Sadly The lottery bid from Osgodby Community Association was not successful, so where do we go from here? All is not lost Eastfield Parish Council still has £10,000 set aside for an allotment project, we are actively looking for a site or sites within Eastfield itself to accommodate an allotment site. I will keep you informed as we go forward. This is due to be discussed at the March Eastfield Parish Council meeting.
January 2010 Yorkshire Coast Homes Land Grab?? At this month’s Parish Council meeting we talked about the possibility of the Borough Council transferring some of our green open spaces to YCH for development, among the spaces YCH would like is the large area of open space between Westway and Ryefield Road, where the dales dwellings are. We felt this was a step to far and unanimously voted to apply to register this land for village green status. For this to work we need your help, we need evidence in the form of letters from local residents saying they have used this land as of right for at least twenty years, head your letter with the Heading “ In support of the land between Westway & Ryefield Road been registered as village green” then just give a brief outline of your or others use of the land, you might have played there as a child or you children or grand children may play on it now, you might walk your dog on it, anything like that. Send your letters of support to The Clerk of Eastfield Parish Council, Eastfield Community Centre, High Street, Eastfield, Scarborough, North Yorkshire YO11 3LJ What ever happened to the promise not to build on our open space made by YCH when they got the houses?

2nd December 2009 Voice your choice The Parish Council met a couple of days ago and set its budget for next year, it is set at £31,000 which works out at a 3% increase on our Council Tax precept. For the first time we have set aside £10,000 to go into a PB pot, we hope to get other agencies to also contribute to this so residents can voice their choice as to what it will fund, we are the first Parish Council in North Yorkshire to do this and I think it marks a shift in how Councils spend Council Tax money, I want to see this expanded over the coming years and much more say given to local residents.

Would you like to say how your Council Tax money is spent?
Every year the Parish Council raises an amount of money from your Council Tax, this is called the precept, it funds the Council and enables us to fund projects like play parks, the Xmas parties & bus services and a host of other Eastfield community based projects. This year I am proposing that we start giving Eastfield residents a direct input into how some of that money is spent, you decide which projects are funded, no talking shops or endless committees, you vote on it and it happens end of! It will be based on the recent successful voice your choice project which saw around 100 Eastfield residents do just that. I would be interested to know what you think about this, after all its your money so why shouldn’t you decide how its spent?

Eastfield Parish Council Xmas Countdown
Well it looks like the Boxing Day bus service will run again this year, and we have asked the bus company if we can also subsidise a service into town on New Years Day too! I will keep you posted.
Preparations are also underway for the Xmas parties, one for the young kids aged 8 – 11 and one for our most senior residents aged 60- well no limit really!

As Chairman of Eastfield Parish Council I am proud to say that we as a Council today proved that we are leading the way on community projects and organisations.
We have formed partnership links to the tune of £13,810 in funding;

Osgodby Community Association £10,000 over two years to create allotments for the people of Eastfield & Osgodby.
Stagecraft project £1500 to engage with young people and promote positive activities and build confidence.
New Strongbow football club £310 to buy kit and footballs.

Christmas Party Success
I am pleased to report that the parish council Christmas party's have been a great success.
The kids Party was held first and 23 out of the 32 kids nominated attended, they were entertained by Dave Marshall and all had plenty to eat and had a great time.
My thanks go to Cllr Barnett for being the co organiser with myself and to Cllrs Mr & Mrs Dickinson for turning out to support the event, also to Brian & Julie.
The Golden years Party was held today where 19 out of the 20 nominated attended and tucked into a very good Christmas dinner consisting of large chicken breast veg followed by a choice of trifle or Christmas pudding. All who attended were very grateful and enjoyed themselves. After dinner a raffle was held followed by two games of prize bingo.
My thanks go to Cllr Barnett once again for been the co organiser with me and for been the chief cook, also to Cllrs Mr & Mrs Dickinson, Cllr O'Flynn, Cllr Evans for waiting on, Also to Brian, Julie & Sharon for helping with the cooking and in Brian's Case calling the bingo and raffle.
It is now clear to me that we as a parish council need to continue the tradition of our Christmas party's. It is our way of giving something back to our community, we will strive to improve and enhance or party's as the years go by.
On the buses As Chairman of Eastfield parish council I proposed that we continue to subsidise the boxing day buses, the number 7 & 17 will run at the same times as they did last Christmas, look out for the exact times which will be advertised on the buses themselves and in future newsletters. As County Councillor for Eastfield & Osgodby I am pleased to say that this will also benefit Osgodby residents who wish to get into town for the Boxing Day events. Don’t forget that if you are of a certain age you can get a free bus pass that will give you free travel all over England, if you are disabled and receive the medium or high rates of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) you can also have a free bus pass! Visit or ring Scarborough Borough Council for more details. |
Boxing Day bus success! Well the buses we provided as a parish council seem have to been well used with standing room only on many buses, the full facts and figures will be available soon but it looks like this popular service will continue in years to come. ![]() |
