Ex Labour County Councillor has Hissy Fit!

During the time Eastfield lay forgotten when Mr Hull was our Councillor he blamed Tory cuts for Labours failure in Eastfield, my god what a lame excuse! We as you’re current Councillors could have very easily sat back and not worked blaming the current Labour government in the same way, but we know that this is no good, we know Eastfield deserves better. That’s why we have worked to bring about the changes and investment to Eastfield which we now have, our play areas are improving, we have a community cafe (Coasters) we have a new Library/resource centre, we have a skateboard park, we are about to get allotments for the community, the Dell is to be developed into a nature/wildlife park, we are helping people have more say in how their Council Tax is spent we are putting people first and politics last. All this in the face of Labour Cuts in spending, Mr Hull would have you believe that it is the government funding all this, WRONG the majority of funding has come from Eastfield Parish Council, Lottery funding , County Council funding and Borough Council funding by way of area committee grants. Eastfield dose not fit into the governments criteria for funding, we look after our selves and Eastfield is now getting very good at that.

 INDEPENDENT HYPOCRISY!!

Well the dust has now almost settled after the County Council elections, there are now 11 independent members sitting on the Council, you may recall some of their election leaflets promising that they have no political affiliations, making much out of the shameful MPs’ expenses scandal billing themselves as whiter than white.

So what has been the first thing they did once elected?? They formed a political group on the Council!! North Yorkshire County Council is entitled to place members on various outside bodies, some with extra cash for being on them… Who has gone after many of these positions of free money in a big way?? Yes the Independent Group! To add insult to injury they relied heavily on the Conservative group to help them in return for “Independent” support for there policies.

The dictionary defines independent as “someone free from control or influence of others” So how can they reconcile or justify becoming a group? The people who were miss led into voting for an “Independent” must be very disappointed, they thought they were buying a race horse but in fact were sold a donkey!! The Scarborough Borough Council “Independents” act in the same way!!

Independents... Can you trust them? NO YOU CAN’T!!

Legalised corruption….. Greed…or both? You decide

Isn’t it time MP’s of ALL political parties were stopped from making the rules on expenses?

I mean wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all could make rules to ensure we could get free houses… free furniture and so on? I accept that if an MP represents an area at the other end of the country they will need somewhere to sleep when down in Westminster, but not a grand house with us paying for the mortgage so it can be sold at a huge profit at a later date! All that is needed in my opinion is a one bed roomed flat, in my opinion this should be rented not bought in any case, a claim for rent would be more acceptable as they are not going to profit from it. There again there is the argument that says MP’s earn enough to cover this anyway!

 LABOUR WRECKS OUR FUTURE

The Labour Party confirmed that they have run out of ideas and have condemned us to years of unemployment and a decade of debt. Their pick-and-mix budget of recycled announcements will do nothing to get us out of this recession and nothing that will help the poorest who are being hit hardest by it.

A Liberal Democrat budget would deliver practical help. It would take 4 million people out of paying tax all together and would cut the majority of people's income tax by £700. Paid for by cutting loophole and exemptions that benefit the richest individuals and big business. We would cancel the pointless VAT cut and invest in important green projects that create jobs right now.

Meanwhile, the Conservatives are planning swingeing cuts at the very time that the country is expected to be gradually starting to recover.

We would take big choices about what government should and shouldn't do. With a shocking deficit this year of £175bn we need a national debate about what the state can and cannot afford in the future.

That is the responsible way - the honest way - to reduce spending in the years ahead and avoid painful higher taxes.

The country deserves something better - a Liberal Democrat government, Vince Cable as Chancellor and a tax system that has everybody paying their fair share.

Council Tax Misery

Council Tax is the most unfair tax we have. It was introduced by a Conservative government following the failure of the community charge. It is inevitable that as we advance into recession more and more people will be unable to pay. It hits the least well off and low paid hard working families of this country.

However to simply freeze Council Tax as some are suggesting would not be the answer. Every year as a Council we are forced, in the face of funding cuts by the government, to make efficiency savings which in turn lead to service cuts. If we are unable to raise Council Tax then we can not deliver services or invest in the future of our Borough. Coupled to this local Councils are directed by government to administer things like the concessionary bus fares for the elderly and disabled, recycling etc. These directives are not fully funded by the government and we the Council are left to pick up the cost!

If Council Tax were to be frozen would the current government (or any other government) increase the grant settlements to local Councils? I think not! We would be left with deep cuts in service and after two frozen years of Council Tax a monumental increase to make up for it.

The better off and the fat cats can afford to absorb rises in Tax, so let’s make local taxation a fairer tax. Let's base it on people’s ability to pay, let’s base it on their income.

If the government is serious about helping the hard working families of this country, the pensioners and the vulnerable then this would be the way to go. However after over ten years of Labour let downs I will not hold my breath.

Conservatives & Independents can NOT win in Eastfield & Osgodby!

Calling all Conservatives!!! Do not waste your vote. In Eastfield & Osgodby it is proven that it is always a straight fight between me and the Labour party in any Council elections.

Use your vote to keep Labour out! If you vote Conservative you could be letting them in!

By continuing to support and vote for me our community will always have a strong voice, I will build upon the foundations I have put down in Eastfield & Osgodby to make our community stronger, cleaner and greener.
